The Pains and Pleasures of Growth

Growth is an inevitable part of life. From the day we are born, we start growing, and the process continues until the end of our lives. However, growth is not always easy. It can be painful, uncomfortable, and sometimes even scary. But, it can also be liberating, exciting, and rewarding. As a coach, I have seen people experience both the pains and pleasures of growth. I too have experienced both sides of the spectrum and continue to experience them to this day. In this blog, I will discuss some of the common pains and pleasures of growth and how to navigate them.

The Pain of Letting Go:

One of the biggest pains of growth is letting go of things that no longer serve us. Whether it’s a job, a relationship, or a way of thinking, letting go can be incredibly difficult. We tend to hold on to these things because they provide us with a sense of security and familiarity. But, in order to grow, we must be willing to let go. This can be painful, but it’s necessary for personal and professional growth. One tip to letting go is to burn the boats. If you are familiar with this analogy, you would remember that in 1519, Hernán Cortés arrived in the New World with six hundred men and, upon arrival, made history by destroying his ships. This sent a clear message to his men: “There is no turning back”. Two years later, he succeeded in his conquest of the Aztec empire.

So my question to you is, what boat do you need to burn to ensure you don’t go back to what has been delaying your growth? Perhaps you need to change your number; or relocate for a determined period; or have a tough conversation; or submit that resignation; or practice confession; or get an accountability partner. Sometimes you just need to make a bold and drastic move.

The Pleasure of Learning:

One of the greatest pleasures of growth is the joy of learning. When we learn something new, we expand our minds and broaden our perspectives. Learning can be incredibly rewarding and empowering. Whether it’s learning a new skill, a new language, or a new way of thinking, the pleasure of learning is one of the greatest pleasures of growth.

Learning new things allows you to tap into new relationships. It unlocks a new perspective on life and changes your approach to new obstacles. It allows you to develop self-confidence and build credibility. Regardless of your age or circumstance, you can always learn something new.

The Pain of Change:

Change can be painful. It disrupts our routines and forces us to step out of our comfort zone. But, change is also necessary for growth. We cannot grow unless we change. Change can be scary, but it’s important to recognize that it’s a natural part of the growth process.

Do me a tiny favor and reflect on any change that you have experienced in the last 2 years. Did it lead to a positive or negative outcome? If positive, how have you grown from that change? If negative, how have you grown from that change? I got you there didn’t I? Sometimes we think that growth only comes from positive outcomes; but growth can come from any outcome. It just so happens that we enjoy the positive outcomes more, for obvious reasons. However, once you shift your perspective on change to one that anticipates growth regardless of the outcome, then you actually grow because growth becomes your focus. Embrace change, and you’ll find that it can lead to great things.

The Pleasure of Accomplishment:

Have you ever accomplished something that gave you an overwhelming sense of fulfillment? When we achieve our goals, it’s like everything falls into place. Whether it’s a small goal or a big one, the feeling of accomplishment is incredibly rewarding.

There’s a clarity that comes with achieving what we set out to do. And with that clarity comes purpose. Suddenly, we have something to work towards and something to be proud of. It’s no wonder that accomplishment leads to fulfillment. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of knowing that you put in the work and achieved success. It’s a feeling that we all crave and strive for, and it’s a feeling that is truly worth the effort. Whether big or small, the accomplishment will reignite your sense of purpose and lead to the fulfillment that you deserve.

The Pain of Fear:

Fear can be paralyzing. It can prevent us from taking risks and pursuing our dreams. But, fear is also a natural part of the growth process. We all experience fear at some point in our lives. It’s important to recognize that fear is just a feeling and that it’s possible to overcome it. When we face our fears, we grow stronger and more resilient.

One tip to overcoming fear that has worked for many is to gain clarity on your purpose. What do you want to achieve? What is your end goal? Once you have a clear understanding of your purpose, make an active decision to obediently pursue it, even if it means facing your fears head-on. Remember, growth happens outside of your comfort zone. Shift your focus away from your fears and onto your purpose and you’ll be on the path to growth and newfound confidence. You got this!

The Pleasure of Faith:

Believing in something larger than ourselves allows us to find clarity in a world that can often seem overwhelming. Faith gives us purpose and a reason to keep moving forward when things get tough. While it’s not always easy to be obedient to the teachings of our faith, this is where true growth occurs. It’s through our setbacks and struggles that we learn the most, and our faith gives us the strength to keep pushing through. For me, the pleasure of faith lies in the comfort and peace it brings to my heart, even when times are tough.

If you’re looking to increase your faith, I’ve got a simple tip for you: focus on obedience. It may seem like a no-brainer, but honestly, the more you obey God’s commands, the more your faith will grow. It’s kind of like working out – the more you push yourself to lift heavier weights, the stronger your muscles get. Similarly, the more you commit to following God’s word and living according to His will, the stronger your faith will become. So go ahead and take that leap of obedience, I promise the growth you’ll experience in your faith will be worth it!

Growth is not always easy, but it’s necessary for personal and professional development. When we let go of what no longer serves us, embrace change, and face our fears, we open ourselves up to new opportunities and experiences. Learning and accomplishing our goals can be incredibly rewarding. So, if you’re feeling stuck or stagnant, remember that growth is a natural part of life. Embrace the pains and pleasures of growth, and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Stop Seeking the Validation of Others

It’s natural to want to be liked and accepted by others. However, seeking the validation of others can be detrimental to our self-confidence. When our self-worth is dependent on the opinions of others, we become vulnerable to their criticism, which can lead to anxiety, self-doubt, and even depression. If you’re tired of living in the shadow of others, read on. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the importance of breaking free from seeking the validation of others and focusing on building our sense of self-worth.

Improve self-awareness

The first step to breaking free from seeking validation from others is to become self-aware. We need to understand ourselves, our strengths and weaknesses, and what makes us happy. Self-awareness leads to confidence, which allows us to make our own decisions and stand by them. When we know who we are, we don’t need the validation of others to feel secure.

Work on self-acceptance

Accepting ourselves for who we are is crucial. Nobody is perfect, and each of us has flaws. Embrace them and work toward improving the things you can change. Make a list of your strengths and focus on developing them, while also accepting your weaknesses. Celebrate your uniqueness and stop comparing yourself to others.

Stop comparing yourself to others

Comparing yourself to others is a surefire way to lower your self-esteem. Everyone has their own journey, their own strengths and weaknesses, and their own unique path. Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your own goals and accomplishments. Celebrate your own successes and learn from your failures.

Surround yourself with supportive people

The people we surround ourselves with can have a significant impact on our self-confidence. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who encourage you to be your best self. Avoid those who constantly criticise or bring you down. It’s easier to feel confident and secure in ourselves when we’re around people who accept and appreciate us.

Practice self-love

Finally, practice self-love. Take care of yourself, prioritise your physical and mental health, and be kind to yourself. Treat yourself the way you would treat a friend – encourage yourself, support yourself, and celebrate your achievements. When we love ourselves, we don’t need the validation of others to feel good about ourselves.

Breaking free from seeking the validation of others takes work, and it’s a journey. But it’s worth it. When we become self-aware, accept ourselves, stop comparing ourselves to others, surround ourselves with supportive people, and practice self-love, we build our self-confidence and sense of self-worth. It’s time to stop living in the shadow of others and embrace our authentic selves. Remember, confidence starts with self-love, and self-love starts with you.

The Importance of Cultivating Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is an elusive concept that often seems to slip away from us when we need it most. The feeling of not being good enough, smart enough or attractive enough can erode our confidence levels and hold us back from living the life we truly want. It’s important to understand why self-confidence is crucial in both our personal and professional lives. This article aims to explain why self-confidence matters and how you can develop and restore it.

Self-confidence improves performance:

One of the main benefits of self-confidence is that it enhances performance in all areas of life. When we believe in our abilities, we are more likely to take risks, put ourselves out there and take on challenges that we previously avoided. This growth mindset can lead to increased productivity and better academic, professional and personal outcomes.

Self-confidence reduces anxiety:

Low self-confidence and anxiety are often intertwined, with one fueling the other. The more we doubt ourselves, the more anxious we become about our abilities, and this vicious cycle can be overwhelming. On the flip side, cultivating self-confidence helps reduce anxiety and combat negative self-talk, leading to a more positive mental outlook.

Self-confidence improves relationships:

Self-confidence isn’t just about yourself; it can also impact your relationships with others. When you are confident, you project a positive energy, you can communicate more effectively and you’re better able to assert boundaries. Being self-assured also enhances your attractiveness and creates a ripple effect of positivity in social settings.

Self-confidence fosters resilience:

Life is full of ups and downs, and having self-confidence can make all the difference in how you handle adversity. When you believe in yourself, setbacks are less likely to derail you or make you doubt your abilities. A strong sense of self-confidence makes it easier to get back up and try again.

Self-confidence is linked to success:

Self-confidence is a key ingredient in achieving success. It’s hard to reach your goals when you don’t believe in yourself, and conversely, self-confidence often leads to opportunities and rewards. It’s not just about feeling good- when you’re confident, others are more likely to trust and respect you, making it easier to achieve your objectives.

In conclusion, self-confidence is a crucial aspect of our lives, impacting many areas of personal and professional growth. It’s normal to experience self-doubt from time to time, but it’s important to develop the skills and mindset to cultivate self-confidence for long-term success. If you’re struggling with low self-confidence, remember that you can always reach out to coaching professionals like myself, who can assist you on the road to self-discovery and improvement. By developing your sense of self-assurance, you can unlock your full potential, creating a happier, more fulfilling life.

Making Bold Moves: The Boldness of Consistency

Part 3 of 3 – Lessons from Eric Alper on Turning Discipline into Influence

When we think about bold moves, our minds often go to the dramatic decisions—the resignation letter, the relocation, the career change. And yes, those are bold. I’ve lived them myself. Leaving my role as Director of Human Capital and moving to Canada was not just a professional decision, but a leap of faith.

But what I’ve learned is this: boldness is not always in the big one-time leap. Sometimes boldness is in the daily discipline, the relentless follow-through, and the quiet choices you make again and again when no one is clapping.

That’s the lesson I carried away after hearing Eric Alper speak.

Passion that Refuses to Quit

Eric Alper is a name that carries weight in the Canadian music industry. For over 25 years, he has been behind the scenes of some of the most influential artists, labels, and campaigns. He’s worked with Smithsonian Folkways, Concord, True North Records, and dozens more. He’s been nominated six times for Publicist of the Year at Canadian Music Week, and he’s overseen publicity campaigns for more than 155 JUNO-nominated albums.

On paper, that’s impressive. But here’s what struck me: Eric’s influence wasn’t just built by the artists he represented or the awards connected to his name. His influence was built by his passion and the discipline to express that passion consistently.

He doesn’t just post occasionally on social media. He posts at least 75 times a week. That’s more than 10 posts a day. Not because someone told him he “had to,” but because he sees social media as a tool, not a toy. He plans, he executes, and he follows through.

Tools, Not Toys

I’ll be honest, like many of you, I’ve had seasons where social media felt draining. We scroll endlessly, compare our lives to curated feeds, and sometimes forget why we even logged on. But Eric’s approach flipped that narrative for me.

For him, social media isn’t about vanity metrics or idle scrolling. It’s a tool, a megaphone to share, connect, and influence. Every post is intentional. Every piece of content is another seed planted.

It reminded me of Proverbs 18:21:

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Our words, whether spoken in a meeting or typed into a caption, carry weight. They can build, inspire, and influence. But only if we choose to use them with purpose.

Passion + Discipline = Influence

Passion on its own is powerful, but without follow-through, it fades. Discipline on its own is impressive, but without passion, it becomes hollow. When you put them together, you create influence that lasts.

Eric’s 75 posts a week aren’t random; they’re anchored in what he loves—music, storytelling, and connection. He doesn’t thrive on routine, yet he’s disciplined. Why? Because his work is connected to his passion.

For me, this was confirmation. Moving to Canada wasn’t about starting from scratch—it was about staying rooted in my lane of transformation and showing up consistently, even when everything around me felt new. Consistency has become my bold move.

Why Consistency Feels Bold

Let’s be real: consistency isn’t glamorous. No one celebrates your 73rd post of the week. No one applauds your 5 AM writing session or your decision to show up again when yesterday’s post didn’t go viral. But that’s exactly why it’s bold.

Consistency is faith in action. It says, “I believe the seeds I plant today will bear fruit tomorrow.”

Galatians 6:9 reminds us:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Your bold move might not be leaving a job or moving countries. Your bold move might be the quiet, unseen discipline of showing up every single day.

Three Lessons for Your Bold Move Season

From Eric’s example, here are three truths I want to leave with you:

  1. Plan and Execute
Boldness isn’t in dreaming big, it’s in executing faithfully. Make the plan. Stick to it. Don’t just think about influence, schedule it.
  2. Use Tools Wisely
Social media is not your enemy, nor is it your identity. It’s a tool. Use it to serve, to connect, to inspire. Don’t let it use you.
  3. Anchor Discipline to Passion
Discipline becomes sustainable when it’s rooted in what you love. What fires you up? Build your consistency around that.

Faith and Follow-Through

Looking back, my three-part series on bold moves has been a story of God’s faithfulness in every stage.

  • In Part 1, I shared about leaving my job and stepping into a new country, learning from Adam Rodricks that where passion meets aptitude, there’s magic.
  • In Part 2, Jerome “Junkyard Dog” Williams reminded me to own my lane, flip the script, and stay hungry.
  • And now, in Part 3, Eric Alper’s discipline shows me that consistency is just as bold as change, that influence is born not in one big step, but in the thousands of small ones that follow.

If you’re in a season where God is asking you to step out, I want to encourage you: boldness isn’t only in the leap. Boldness is in the follow-through.

Your Challenge: Passion into Action

This week, I challenge you to take one area of your life where passion has been stirring and pair it with a plan for consistency.

  • If you’ve been meaning to write, commit to 20 minutes a day.
  • If you’ve been planning to post, start with three posts a week and grow from there.
  • If you’ve been thinking about serving, sign up and show up.

Bold moves are born in obedience, sustained by discipline, and fueled by passion.

And here’s the promise: when you move boldly, consistently, and faithfully, you will reap a harvest.

This concludes my three-part series on Bold Moves. Each speaker reminded me of something profound: boldness is not just a one-time choice. It’s a lifestyle of clarity, courage, consistency, and faith. My prayer is that you find the courage to make your bold move and the discipline to walk it out every day.

Making Bold Moves: Owning Your Lane

Part 2 of 3 – Lessons in Hunger, Resilience, and Connection

When I moved to Canada, I knew I had stepped into a new season – new country, new opportunities, and a new stretch of faith. But here’s the thing: even when God shifts your location, you still have to decide how you’ll show up.

In my first few months here, I had the privilege of hearing Jerome “Junkyard Dog” Williams speak. A former NBA player with a career spanning the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, and New York Knicks, Jerome’s presence is bigger than basketball. He’s a youth advocate, a leader, and someone whose energy pulls you in from the moment he starts speaking.

Jerome shared about his new book, R.O.L.E. Player: Passing on the Wisdom. He reminded us that success isn’t always about being the star—it’s about embracing the role you were created to play and leveraging every opportunity to grow. His philosophy of being a relentless opportunist, turning labels into strengths, staying hungry, and showing up authentically, echoes the heart of making bold moves.

To me, boldness isn’t about reckless leaps; it’s about recognizing the lane God has placed you in and owning it fully, even when it looks different from what the world celebrates. Like Jerome, when we choose to step out in faith and operate from authenticity, we don’t just make moves, we create impact that lasts.

As I listened to him share his journey, a few key lessons landed so deeply with me that they’ve been shaping the way I think about influence, branding, and faith in this new chapter of my life.

Lesson 1: Own Your Lane

Jerome spoke about the importance of owning your lane. In basketball, your lane is your role, your position, your way of contributing to the team’s success. In life, your lane is the unique combination of your gifts, your experiences, and your calling.

The temptation when you enter a new season—or a new market—is to copy what others are doing because it seems to work. But owning your lane means being rooted in what God has already placed in your hands. It means running your race without swerving into someone else’s.

For me, that lane is organisational transformation and leadership coaching—helping people and organizations navigate change in a way that aligns with purpose and drives real growth. Moving to Canada didn’t change my lane; it expanded it.

Lesson 2: Flip the Script

One of my favorite moments from Jerome’s talk was when he shared how he used what others said about him to his advantage. People would label him, underestimate him, or try to put him in a box—and instead of fighting the label, he flipped the script.

That’s how “Junkyard Dog” became more than a nickname. It became a brand. It was about hustle, persistence, and doing the work no one else wanted to do but doing it with excellence.

It made me think about the times people have made assumptions about me:

  • Too bold.
  • Too direct.
  • Too ambitious.

In the past, I may have tried to tone it down. Now? I flip the script. Those traits are exactly what allow me to lead change, speak truth, and inspire action.

Lesson 3: Stay Hungry

Jerome’s career wasn’t built on talent alone—it was built on hunger. Even after making it to the NBA, he stayed ready to work harder than anyone else.

This resonated with me because hunger is a choice. In seasons of comfort, it’s easy to lose it. In seasons of challenge, it’s tempting to replace it with fear. But hunger—spiritually and professionally—keeps you pressing toward the mark.

Philippians 3:14 says:

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Hunger keeps you pressing. It keeps you moving when doors take longer to open. It keeps you sharp when others relax.

Lesson 4: The Power of Storytelling

Jerome’s talk also reminded me that people don’t just connect with what you do—they connect with why you do it. He didn’t just list stats or talk about his achievements. He told stories that brought you into the locker room, onto the court, and into his heart for youth.

Storytelling is the bridge between your life and someone else’s breakthrough. It’s what turns information into inspiration.

And here’s the faith-based truth: Jesus Himself used stories, parables, to reveal Kingdom principles. If storytelling was His strategy, it should be ours too.

Your Turn: Apply the JYD Mindset

Here’s how you can take these lessons into your own bold move season:

  1. Own Your Lane – Identify the lane God has placed you in and stay rooted there.
  2. Flip the Script – Take what’s been said about you, good or bad, and turn it into a strength.
  3. Stay Hungry – Don’t lose your drive when things get hard or when they get easy.
  4. Tell Your Story – Share your journey, not just your wins.

Why This Matters for Impact

When you operate from your lane, flip the script, stay hungry, and tell your story, you build trust. You create influence. You give people something to believe in.

And in this new chapter of my life, I’m realizing more than ever that influence is not just about visibility, it’s about responsibility. Every story you tell, every move you make, and every lane you own becomes a seed planted in someone else’s heart.

In Part 3, I’ll share about another speaker and how their lessons are shaping the way I’m building my next season of business, influence, and impact.

Until then, remember:
Your lane is sacred. Own it. Protect it. And let God use it to impact the world.

Making Bold Moves: The First Step Into the Unknown

Part 1 of 3 – Lessons in Courage, Branding, and New Beginnings

I still remember the day I decided to hand in my resignation as Director of Human Capital.
My heart was pounding and it wasn’t because I didn’t know what was next, actually it was something I have been preparing for mentally for a while so I understood what it meant. I was stepping away from the comfort of a leadership role, a familiar environment, and an industry I had poured into for years… to relocate to Canada with my husband and start fresh.

This was not a spontaneous decision. It was a faith decision.
God had been stirring something in me for months, reminding me that obedience often feels uncomfortable at first, but it always produces fruit in due season.

Sometimes, bold moves don’t look logical on paper. They don’t check every box or come wrapped in a guarantee. But they’re the kind of moves that align with your purpose, stretch your capacity, and pull you into the unknown where God can reveal more of Himself and your potential.

One major part of this bold move, was building a brand from the ground up in a new territory.

When Passion Meets Aptitude

Recently, I had the privilege of hearing Adam Rodricks, National Director, Social Growth and Experience, at KPMG, speak about branding and influence. One line from his talk hit me right between the eyes:

“Where passion meets aptitude, there’s great work and magic.”

In that moment, I thought about my own transition.
Passion without skill can burn out quickly. Skill without passion can feel hollow. But when passion and aptitude collide, it’s not just work—it’s an assignment.

When I made the move to Canada, it wasn’t just about changing my address. It was about aligning my skills, my calling, and my environment in a way that would allow me to show up at my fullest.

Zig Where Others Zag

Adam also said something that has stayed with me: “Zig where others have zagged.”
It’s tempting to follow the well-trodden path; do what’s expected, stay where it’s safe, and build what others understand. But safe isn’t always where you’re called.

Everyones path looks different.

Sometimes, your zig will look like:

-Moving to a new country without a fully mapped-out plan.

-Starting the business everyone says is “too risky.”

-Leaving the job people think you’d be crazy to quit.

For me, zigging meant leaving a senior leadership role without a ready-made replacement opportunity, because I knew my assignment required space, faith, and a willingness to be different.

Find the Niche, Fill the Gap

One of the practical takeaways from Adam’s session was that strong brands, whether corporate or personal, have two things in common:

  1. They know their niche.
  2. They fill a gap.

For me, my niche has always been transformation. I help leaders and organizations navigate change in a way that nourishes people, aligns with purpose, and drives performance.

The gap? For years, I felt like I was pouring into others but didn’t have the physical or mental space to pour into building the vision God gave me for by companies. Moving to Canada gave me that space. It allowed me to think strategically, dream boldly, and step into opportunities that were waiting for me on the other side of obedience.

But I have made the move, now how do I build the impact? This was the question that was daunting me having relocated to a new territory, with no contacts or connections.

Influence Over Vanity

Another powerful insight Adam shared was this: Social media is not about vanity metrics—it’s about creating influence.

We live in a time where 93% of buying decisions are influenced by social media. That means what you put out into the world matters. But here’s the thing: influence isn’t built on how many people “like” your post. It’s built on how deeply you connect with the people who need your voice.

My application of this is simple. When you share your bold move, your testimony, your lessons—you’re not chasing numbers. You’re creating ripples. You’re planting seeds. You’re giving someone else permission to believe that they can take a step of faith too.

Therefore, social media became not just my friend but a loyal ally.

Two Questions to Guide Your Influence

Adam further expressed that every piece of content, every conversation, and every decision you make about your personal brand should answer these two unspoken questions:

  1. Why should I care?
  2. Why should I share?

When people can answer those for themselves, you’re not just seen—you’re remembered. And when you’re remembered, your influence grows beyond a title, a company, or a platform.

The Faith Side of Bold Moves

Let’s be real—bold moves aren’t glamorous when you’re in the middle of them. They can feel like freefalling.

There were days after resigning when I wondered if I had made the right choice. But every time doubt crept in, God reminded me of Isaiah 43:19:

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

The wilderness can be scary, but it’s also where provision flows in unexpected ways. Your job is to keep moving forward, trusting that the One who called you into the unknown has already gone ahead to prepare the way.

The Bold Move Challenge

If you’re reading this and sensing that God has been nudging you toward your own bold move, here’s my challenge for you this week:

  • Pray for clarity. Ask God to confirm the step and give you peace that overrides fear.
  • Identify your niche. What do you do so well that it feels natural, and how does it serve others?
  • Find the gap. Where is there a need that your gifts and experience can meet?
  • Zig where others zag. Don’t be afraid to take the path less traveled if that’s where your calling is leading.
  • Speak it out. Share your journey with others—it may be the spark they need.

What This Means for You

Making a bold move is not just about career change, relocation, or business decisions—it’s about obedience. It’s about saying yes when God opens a door, even if it leads to a hallway you’ve never walked before.

Bold moves will test your faith, stretch your capacity, and redefine your identity. But they will also position you for influence, impact, and the kind of fulfillment you can’t manufacture by playing it safe.

In Part 2 of this series, I’ll share how I began rebuilding my network, influence, and opportunities in a brand-new country and the surprising strategies that work no matter where you are in the world.

Until then, remember: You were not created for comfort zones. You were created for Kingdom impact.

Developing Leadership Confidence: Strategies and Tips

Leadership can be an exciting journey filled with varied experiences, challenges, and obstacles along the way. However, without confidence, even the most skilled and knowledgeable leaders may struggle to achieve their goals and make their mark. Confidence is an essential trait that empowers leaders to communicate effectively, make tough decisions, and inspire others. Fortunately, leaders can develop and nurture their confidence through various strategies and techniques. In this article, we will explore some proven ways to cultivate leadership confidence and take your leadership game to the next level.

Embrace your strengths and weaknesses

Leadership confidence starts with accepting and embracing your unique strengths and weaknesses. You cannot build confidence if you are constantly focusing on your shortcomings and inadequacies. Take the time to assess your skills, knowledge, and experiences objectively. Recognize your strengths and celebrate them, and identify areas where you could improve. Embrace your imperfections and use them as opportunities for growth and development. Embracing both your strengths and weaknesses also helps you appreciate others’ strengths and weaknesses, which fosters better collaboration.

Take calculated risks

Leadership involves taking calculated risks and making bold decisions. The fear of failure and uncertainty may sometimes hinder your confidence and ability to take action. However, taking calculated risks can help you develop your confidence and leadership skills. Start with small risks, such as speaking up in meetings or delegating tasks. Then, as you become more comfortable, gradually increase the level of risk you take. Use the feedback from your actions to improve future decision-making and build your confidence.

Cultivate a growth mindset

Leadership requires continuous learning and personal growth. Adopting a growth mindset means seeing challenges as opportunities and believing that you can learn from any experience. This mindset enables you to embrace change, adapt to new situations, and develop your skills and knowledge. Leaders with a growth mindset see feedback as a gift and use it to improve their performance. They also seek out challenges and challenges that help them learn and develop. Cultivating a growth mindset is a powerful tool for developing leadership confidence.

Practice self-care

Leadership can be demanding, and your confidence can take a hit when you are not taking care of yourself. Taking time for self-care helps you recharge, refocus, and develop resilience. Engage in activities that bring you joy, such as exercising or spending time with friends and family. Get support from a coach, mentor, or therapist when you need it. Prioritizing self-care helps you maintain a healthy work-life balance, reduces stress, and enhances your confidence.

Surround yourself with a supportive network

Leadership can be isolating at times, but you don’t have to go it alone. A supportive network of people who believe in you and your abilities can be a powerful booster of your confidence. Seek out mentors, coaches, colleagues, or family and friends who can provide honest feedback, challenge you, and support your growth. Having a support system can help you navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and gain new perspectives. Building and nurturing a supportive network is crucial to developing leadership confidence.

Developing leadership confidence takes time and effort, but it is a worthwhile investment. Embracing your strengths and weaknesses, taking calculated risks, cultivating a growth mindset, practicing self-care, and surrounding yourself with a supportive network are just a few strategies that can help you build your confidence as a leader. By doing so, you will be better equipped to navigate challenges, inspire and motivate your team, and achieve your goals. Remember, leadership is not about perfection; it’s about growth and making a difference. So take action, stay open-minded, and keep growing!

The Importance of Self-care for Parents

By Gale Carter, Family Coach at Impact Coaching International

From the time we find out that we are going to be parents we want to be the best that we can be and the preparation begins. We make sure that we get in all the doctor visits, eating right – health and nutrition are paramount because we are now caring for an additional being. We think about education and start reading books and listening to music which would have a positive impact on our unborn child. Please don’t get me wrong, this is all good stuff and I applaud those who do and encourage it.

However, there is the part of parenthood that no one talks about… afterwards and the years that follow. We feel guilty about parent anger/rage or confessing that we are feeling burnout. We don’t want anyone to think that we regret having our child/children or that we are not good parents. Well, here is a public service announcement…parent rage and parent burnout are real and if you experience it, you are quite normal and yes you are a great parent. The important thing is not to stay in that place. So, what can you do?

Self-care is the key to maintaining a healthy balance during parenthood. As a parent we can lose ourselves in the journey. Here are a few tips which may help

  • Make self-care a part of your routine – this will help you and also help your child to understand that it is okay and very important to take care of yourself.
  • Start with at least 15 minutes a week to enjoy something that brings you joy and peace. Depending on the age of the child, this time may vary but the important thing is to start and put it in the schedule. With older children, talk about the importance of self-care and engage in self-care together.
  • Surround yourself with like-minded people who are positive and eager to grow as well.

When parents are exhausted, negative emotions rise to the surface and situations spiral out of control as a result. This comes as a result of your needs which are not being addressed. Take some time to check in on your needs. Luke 10:27 “…you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and love your neighbour as yourself”. As parents we have to recognise that we cannot give from what we do not have. There is a saying that goes “we cannot pour from an empty cup”; so, parents, fill your cup up first so that you can positively pour into your children and your families in a positive way.

The Importance of Coaching in an Organisation

By Kara Boyce, Senior Certified Professional Coach & HR Professional

Coaching continues to be a growing discipline. A number of studies have been undertaken in recent years that clearly indicate the worth, efficacy, and influence of coaching in a variety of circumstances.

The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.

We all have goals we want to achieve, obstacles we want to overcome, and times when we feel stuck. Working with a coach can transform your life and put you on the path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.

The same is true within organisations. In an article by Forbes, Dr. Brown shared on the notion that emotions and stress from personal challenges can easily be carried into the workplace. As a result of this, performance maybe hindered. Therefore, integrating the benefits of coaching into any organisation, is one way to support employees on their path to professional achievement.

You may have read several articles or listened to many podcasts on the shift from Management to Leadership. There is another shift taking place and it’s called coaching. Whilst it may be argued that both leadership and coaching go hand in hand, there is still a need to be distinctive with the principles of coaching. The visual below from Harvard Business Review depicts the importance of having performance coaches within your organisation. Ultimately, this approach creates accountability through partnership.

If you ask 100 employees whether they would like the opportunity to learn from a coach or a mentor, more than 50% may say yes. Some may say it depends on the coach. However, there is a general willingness to grow and develop; to reduce mistakes and inefficiencies; and most importantly to feel a level of satisfaction within oneself for a job well done.

This is what coaching within an organisation can provide to employees. Other benefits include, but are not limited to: individuals are empowered and encouraged to take responsibility; increased employee and staff engagement; improved individual performance; aids in the identification of organizational and individual strengths and development opportunities; encourages and empowers individuals to achieve success; and, demonstrates the organization’s dedication to human resource development.

It is therefore encouraged that you start to integrate coaching as a tool into your organisation. There are many ways that you can achieve this, whether its by utilizing external coaches such as the professionals at Impact Coaching International or equipping internal coaches to create a unique culture of your own. The latter further fosters a culture of coaching and we would also be happy to support you in this area.
